Viennese wickerwork – this month's must-have

Does this sound familiar? Your flat has been freshly renovated, the new furniture is in place, but that radiator... just doesn't fit in. If so, Kristina from Atelier Krisaint has the perfect solution! With her homemade radiator cover, she has transformed the unsightly radiator into an element that enhances the room.

What you need for the DIY project:

Sketching is better than guessing

First things first: make a plan of how you want your cladding to look in the end. To do this, first measure your radiator and the wall it is on. Use these measurements to make a sketch so you know how much material you need. Then it's time to cut! Once the individual boards have been cut to size, screw them together with metal connectors to form our basic framework.

Framed

To give the whole thing that certain something, Kristina used the Marlene wall moulding and mounting tape to create a frame around the windows of the cladding.

To do this, simply mitre the moulding – this works great with a mitre box and saw – attach the double-sided mounting tape to the back of the moulding, remove the protective strips and stick it to the desired spot on the panelling. Done!

…Und dank dem Klebeband musst du nicht einmal lange warten bis der Kleber getrocknet ist, sondern kannst gleich weitermachen.

Finally...

Now staple the Viennese mesh to the back of the panelling. Cut the sides and the shelf to size and screw them to the frame from behind using brackets. Now paint everything and hang it on the wall.

And the result is really impressive!

Beautiful things can be so simple. The radiator has disappeared and you've even gained a shelf in the hallway.

You can watch a more detailed step-by-step guide in Kristina's video here.
