HALLWAY MAKEOVER

Imagine walking into a house and being immediately greeted by a hallway that is not only functional but also tells a story. A home that radiates atmosphere from the moment you step inside. Laura and Victor have made this dream home a reality.

Measuring, laying out and marking – redesigning your hallway with decorative elements

Start by measuring your hallway and making a sketch. Think carefully about where you want to place the decorative elements, in our case wall mouldings and wall panels. You can find inspiration on Instagram, for example. This narrow hallway makeover was created in collaboration with Laura from Oursweetliving, and you can watch a short video of the DIY project on her channel. Ready to transform your home into a place of inspiration?

What you need for the DIY project:

Step by step...

The first thing on the to-do list is to prepare the walls. Make sure that the walls are clean, smooth and dry. Remove old wallpaper or paint if necessary and smooth out any uneven areas with sandpaper or filler. Then you can move straight on to the wall panels. You will have already cut the wall mouldings to size according to your sketch. Tip: Here you can see again how to easily mitre cut wall mouldings. Now mark the positions of the wall panels on the wall and use a spirit level to ensure that everything is straight. Apply the universal adhesive to the back of the wall moulding and press the moulding onto the wall in the desired position. For additional support, you can secure the mouldings with masking tape. Now leave everything to dry thoroughly. Now it's time to start painting. Once the wall panels and wall mouldings are in place, paint the entire wall or just the panels with a colour of your choice. You will find a wide range of different colours at DIY stores or online to suit your style or the atmosphere you want to create. Laura chose ‘Tochter der Antike’ (Daughter of Antiquity) by Alpina Farben for her hallway.

Finishing touches...

Once the paint has dried, all that's missing is the right décor. Furniture, rugs, mirrors and artwork on the walls complete the look and create a harmonious atmosphere. There are no limits to your creativity here, and even your own paintings can add an extra wow factor. Finally, take a moment to admire your new hallway, be proud of your craftsmanship and simply enjoy your newly designed hallway. You can find detailed instructions with measurements on the Oursweetliving channel. Feel free to take a look and be inspired.
